But Tommy’s been looking for it all week, so, as if magnetized, Tommy still lifts his pained head upward.

    “Theseus! Give yourself up, you’re surrounded!” The man bellowed, silhouetted against the sky, vomit green cape fluttering obnoxiously in the cool evening wind.

    Tommy, standing on the opposite rooftop, snorted disdainfully. Heroes were always so fucking pretentious. He was ‘surrounded’ apparently. Yeah, sure. It was only Dolos and his timid sidekick. Granted, they were annoying, and Tommy would really rather not get involved in Dolos if he could avoid the man, but he was easy enough to get away from when it came down to it.

    Named aptly after the god of trickery and deception, Dolos’ power was the irritating ability to create illusions. On top of that, the guy had super speed. And he was a bitch.

    Really, that was at least 3 strikes.

    I DO NOT SUPPORT WILBUR SOOT. FUCK HIM. SHUBBLE SUPPORT!

    OR — Y’know those huge inflatable wiggly men? The ones that are much larger than they have any right to be, bend in ways that are simultaneously exactly what you’d expect and you had no idea were even possible, and are weirdly unsettling (yet fun) to watch unfold?     Swaying in the gentle autumn breeze, buttercups were little spots of sunlight lost in the fiery sea of fallen leaves. Their existence was so simple. They didn’t feel pain, they didn’t feel sorrow. They didn’t grieve for the life they once dreamed of, for the innocence they were never allowed to have, for their lost family, for the friendships that could have been but never got a chance to start. They simply existed unburdened by life.

    Maybe in a sense, he would be one soon. Blood was slowly seeping out of him, a remnant of his latest encounter with Dream, food for the earth delivered right from his body. Perhaps his flesh would turn into nutrients for the flowers as well if the wounds were deep enough. The slash across his abdomen sure looked fatal enough.

    Tommy watched this all happen without really processing it. The world seemed hazy, as if the fog in his brain was clouding his vision. He felt kind of like he was floating outside of his body, hovering but detached.

    So when he remained seated after Phil called a break and Wilbur disappeared and still hadn’t moved by the time Techno got comfortable on the couch, the bassist clocked his behavior as unusual.

    “Toms, you doin’ okay?”

    The teen glanced up from where he’d been staring into space to meet Techno’s eyes, blinking, waiting for his lagging brain to catch up.

    “I…” am on the verge of a breakdown so…probably not. But he wouldn’t dream of dumping that on his bandmate, so instead he looked away, twirling the drumsticks between his fingers. “‘M just tired, is all.”

    Tommy wasn’t allowed to leave the specific tower his room was in. He was still too young Dream said. The world outside was dangerous. Evil lurked behind every corner, ready to take advantage of someone as naive and defenseless as Tommy. Dangerous beasts roamed the night, creatures not fully alive nor dead that feasted on human flesh and reveled in their victim’s pained screams. Or so Dream claimed.

    Tommy personally thought he was plenty old enough to leave. He was fifteen, almost sixteen for fuck’s sake!

    Sure, he didn’t have any weapons and he didn’t have any idea on how to use one, but he could try and learn, right? Dream was a good fighter so surely he could take some time off his busy schedule to teach his dearest little brother, right?

    Wrong.

    He always made up some excuse for it. He didn’t have time that day. Tommy did something wrong and needed to be punished and teaching him would be a reward instead. Tommy looked too unwell that day despite feeling perfectly fine. The list went on and on…

    He was growing tired of the cycle.

    Why had every other nerve in his body caught on but the stupid outside didn't? Why did it have to look like that when other boys were out there with lean figures and bushy eyebrows and defined cheekbones. He was already so fucking unlucky in pretty much every department, everyone always betrayed him at some stage or another including his own flesh.

    He hated it. Hated himself. Hated his appearance. Hated stupid gender. His chest wasn't flat like every other boy, his voice was high-pitched and unbearably squeaky like nails on a chalk board and he tended to pretend that from the waist down simply didn't exist since there was little he could about about his hips and it would just end up making him have an even harsher mental breakdown, which was not an ideal right before he was supposed to go to sleep. Sleep hardly even sounded appealing anymore.

    Tommy has to live as a trans man, traumatised by the horrors of his previous homes he has to hide who he is. But then he arrives at the Crafts and everything changes, becomes so confusing. He was allowed love?

    Phil couldn’t say he regretted the choice of breaking Dream out of prison per se.

    He understood the necessity for it. Techno couldn’t owe the man a favor forever, and, besides, it had been convenient to do while retrieving Ranboo from there. And it wasn’t like they’d known what the man was truly like beforehand, he and Techno genuinely believed he was just some dude with values that somewhat aligned with theirs.

    That said, he hadn’t been able to get Tommy’s frightened expression and ragged appearance out of his mind ever since the kid had come running over to his house, begging for Phil's protection from Dream.

    Phil still couldn’t comprehend how anyone’s first instinct coming out of prison could be to chase down and scare the crap out of a random teenager he had beef with at some point, but he knew that he couldn’t just leave Tommy to deal with it. Not because he felt any remorse over his actions, just because it wouldn’t be right.

    Tommy didn’t deserve to go through that alone.
